Meyer Lemon Pots de Crème

There is no doubt my closest friends have an influence on me ~

For example, my inspirational friend Jain, on her blog Once Under a Blue Moon recently made blood orange pots de crème using the abundance from her incredible California hillside gardens.

I don't grow blood oranges here, but I do grow Meyer lemons in pots.

In order to accomodate their requirements in my climate, which is a little too severe to grow citrus outdoors all year round, I winter them indoors.

I get a decent crop each year by using this method, enough for several Meyer Lemon recipes.

It's a rich, creamy treat.

Divine as the chocolate version, and it's one that works equally well for citrus.

If you don't have access to Meyer lemons, you could easily substitute regular lemons, just dilute a little bit (perhaps add a splash of orange juice in place of some of the lemon juice), and increase the sugar slightly to taste.

Just keep the liquid volume near the original and it will work out very well.

It's a 'once in a while' treat around here, but very pleasing.

I've used a few different recipes for Meyer lemon pots de crème ~ here is the one I used most recently~

of the recipe on my recipe blog.

  4. I've never been sure if lemons and oranges are a winter thing (nothing else around) or a spring/summer thing (that's what lemons FEEL like to me, anyway...) I'm fascinated by meyer lemons and blood oranges, and I STILL haven't managed to find or try either!

  6. Hi Mari!

Your photos, as usual, are amazing.

I've never cooked with or experienced Meyer lemons (can you believe that!?!). How would you describe their taste? Do they have an herbal essence, of sorts, to them?
