Postcard ~ Near Home

Each year we look forward to Art along the River in the town closest to our rural home; chalk artists from near and far are engaged by local businesses to create their magic on the street on a Saturday and Sunday in October. Once again the event didn't disappoint.
The weather was absolutely gorgeous, sunny and warm with a bit of a breeze (you'll see some evidence of this by a few autumn leaves that came to rest momentarily on some of the chalk art.) The event is attended by people of all ages, and plenty of dogs of all shapes and sizes.
Capturing the artwork with the camera is a bit of a challenge with all of the people also interested in getting a look, and the shadows cast by buildings and trees but I think this will give you a little glimpse. There were many more in various stages of completion, and along the sidewalks on each side of the street children are encouraged to create with chalk on smaller squares set aside just for them. I hope you enjoy!

The following was one of my favs . . . and note to self: The ones in the shade make the most vivid images.

A quick bite for sushi at a favorite spot, then home for an evening in front of the fire, (the temps are getting very chilly at night, the duvets went on the beds this weekend ~ ahhh!)
It was a very enjoyable day after spending Saturday outdoors preparing the gardens for winter sleep.

Postcards from the Garden

I so wish I could share the heavenly fragrance of this garden with you!

This was the calm before the storm in the side garden . . .

If you have roses, or rose covered garden arches, showers of rose petals are inevitable --unless you're vigilant about dead-heading. (Dead-heading means removing the spent blossoms.)

the weather is usually quite 'changeable' for Memorial Day weekend, and this year was no exception.
Yesterday was a mix of brilliant blue skies, changing to overcast, some light sprinkles a pattern which repeated throughout the day . . . then the high winds whipped up in the late afternoon ~

which wreaked havoc on the rose arches . . .

I'm glad I was able to capture a couple of shots of one or two of the rose arches over the path just moments before the wind had its way.
*sigh*
I'm going out now to mend/tieback/clip and do major petal clean-up right now.

New Peeps ~ The Next Generation!

The chicken population is growing at my house. :)

I've shared about my chickens before, back in 2010 ~ from the very beginning of the construction of the Hen House and the completed project.

And introduced some of the chickens here and here and here.

Those hens have been good girls and steady layers ~ we've added on to the original chicken coop and pen since then so it's time to rejuvenate things a bit.

This time I chose more Buff Orpingtons, Rhode Island Reds, and Americaunas (the ones that lay blue or green eggs.)

It's always so much fun to watch them grow ~ I hope you enjoy these pictures of the most recent additions to the flock:

When fully mature the hens look like this:

And the hens will weigh about 8 pounds, it is a very good natured breed, excellent laying hens, the hens are good nurturing mothers, and they are surely right up there among my favorites chickens.

I'll post more of the other newbies soon.
